Leandra's Law: Drunk 27-Year-Old Crashes In Capital Region With Child In Car, Police Say
A 27-year-old woman from the region is accused of causing a drunk-driving crash involving a child. The Saratoga County incident happened at around 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, in the town of Ballston. Sheriff’s officials said Haley Czwakiel, of Ballston Spa, had a blood alcohol content (BAC) greater than .08 percent when she caused a property damage crash on Saratoga Road. At the time of the crash, she was traveling with a child under the age of 15, deputies said. Neither Czwakiel nor the child were injured. Several area police agencies are investigating grand larceny complaints after a resident was allegedly scammed out of $12,000. According to Saugerties Police Chief Joseph Sinagra, the scammer -- who is operating in Ulster County -- called a town resident, reporting to be an attorney representing the victim’s grandson, telling the victim he needed to pay $12,000 cash to have his grandson released from jail. Hours-Long Standoff Ends In Suicide In Area
A tense hours-long standoff ended when an area resident with a rifle killed himself. Putnam County Sheriff Robert Langley, Jr. said the incident unfolded around 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 23, when the town of Kent Ambulance along with the EmStar medics were dispatched to Pudding Street in the Town of Putnam Valley for a man with chest pain. The medic unit was first on scene and was confronted by a man with a shotgun. St. Patrick's Day Crackdown In Area Results In 21 Arrests
A total of 21 people were busted for alleged drunk driving or driving while impaired during a St. Patrick’s Holiday DWI crackdown in the area.
