In the wake of the latest mass shootings in Buffalo and Texas, Gov. Kathy Hochul is calling on state lawmakers to pass legislation making it more difficult for young New Yorkers to purchase some types of guns. A 13-year-old student in upstate New York is facing charges after authorities say he brought an 8-inch knife to a school in the Hudson Valley and intended to stab a school staffer. Capital District City Approves Funding For More Officers In Schools
Students will soon see more police officers on campus in Schenectady public schools. The city council approved a controversial agreement between the Schenectady Police Department and the school district Monday, May 9, that will provide up to six officers in schools over the next three years, according to the resolution. The incident took place on Tuesday, April 5, in Yonkers when a student at the Patricia DiChiaro Elementary School brought what he thought was chocolate to school and shared it with two classmates, said Det. A Northern Westchester high school student was injured after jumping out of a third-floor window of an area high school. The incident took place on Monday, Jan. 3, when a 16-year-old student at Fox Lane High School in Bedford, "voluntarily jumped" from the third-floor window, said Bedford Police Lt. Jeffrey Gulick. Students and staff at an area school got an unwelcome surprise when a bullet was found in the bleachers at the end of their game.
