Stretch Of Roadway In Hudson Valley Renamed For Firefighter Who Died Battling Blaze A section of a busy Hudson Valley roadway has been renamed to honor a fallen area firefighter who was killed in a massive fire trying to save more than 125 residents. Route 45 in Rockland County between New Hempstead Road and East Eckerson Road is now designated as “Firefighter Jared Lloyd Memorial Highway." Road signs with the new name are expected to be unveiled later this year after they are installed by the NYS Department of Transportation. Rockland Man Standing Near SUV With Airbags Deployed Charged With DWI, Police Say A 38-year-old man was arrested after allegedly driving drunk and crashing near a Rockland County Park. Officers from the Ramapo Police Department responded to a one-car crash shortly after 5 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 2 on Route 45 near Reisman Park. Police said upon arrival, officers found the driver of a 2014 Nissan Murano outside the vehicle, which had its airbags deployed. The investigation into the crash found that the driver, a 38-year-old Haverstraw resident whose name has not been released, was allegedly intoxicated. Crash Closes Road, Knocks Out Power In Rockland A crash in Rockland County has caused road closures and power outages, including at New Hempstead Elementary School. The crash took place around 4:21 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 12, when a vehicle traveling westbound on New Hempstead Road lost control and struck a utility pole causing a power outage in the area, Ramapo Police said. No injuries were reported as a result of the crash, but some 1,400 customers were without power, police said.
