The arrival of an unsettled weather pattern at the end of this week will bring a storm system that could deliver snow as the new year begins. Current long-range models indicate that the potential snowmaker may arrive on Wednesday, Jan. 1. If it arrives overnight, we could see accumulating snowfall. Winter 2024-25 Forecast Released By NOAA National Weather Service
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Climate Prediction Center has just released its outlook for the winter of 2024-25. A“slowly-developing” La Niña is expected to shape weather throughout the country from December through February, NOAA says. With the Labor Day weekend marking the unofficial end of summer, forecasters are starting to look ahead and predict what's in store for the winter of 2025. Separate rounds of showers will follow a springlike stretch marked by mild temperatures and clear skies. It will be sunny with temperatures above average on Wednesday, March 13, and Thursday, March 14 with high temperatures in the mid-60s on Wednesday and upper 60s on Thursday with calm winds. The remnants of Post Tropical Cyclone Olga will bring soaking rain, scattered storms, strong winds and possible flooding to the region. Precipitation from the system arrived overnight and will continue throughout the day. Nestor, a tropical storm that has moved to the East Coast, is expected to bring precipitation to the area on Sunday, Oct. 20. The heaviest rain from the system will be south of New York City, where locally heavy rainfall and severe thunderstorms are expected. (See image above.)
