Woman Killed In Hit-Run Crash At Busy Intersection In Hudson Valley
A hit-run driver struck and killed a woman in the region, according to New York State Police. The crash happened in Dutchess County at approximately 8:35 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 26, near the intersection of Old Hopewell Road and Route 9 in the town of Wappinger. The 43-year-old woman was hit by a westbound vehicle. Despite efforts by Good Samaritans, she was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Her identity has not yet been released. Stranger Held Dying Pedestrian's Hand After He Was Struck By Car In Capital District
A pedestrian who lay dying after being struck by a car in the region was not alone as he took his last breath, thanks to the generosity of a stranger. Emergency crews in Rensselaer County were called just after 9 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12, with reports that a male pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle in the town of Brunswick, near Highway 2 and Blue Factory Road. A miracle on the Hudson it was not. A good Samaritan in Greene County called 911 shortly after 9 a.m. Thursday, July 28, with reports of a small plane down in the Hudson in Catskill, not far from the Rip Van Winkle Bridge. When troopers arrived they found a seaplane in the water and reported at least one occupant out and in the water, New York State Police said. A Hudson Valley woman is alive thanks to the efforts of an area deputy who happened to see her crash her vehicle, which then burst into flames. The incident took place in Putnam County around 10 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 3, on Route 9D in the Town of Philipstown near Boscobel. Woman Saved From Jumping Off New Tappan Zee Bridge By Good Samaritan
A woman who pulled her vehicle onto the shoulder of the roadway of the new Tappan Zee Bridge and began climbing the safety fence to jump from the span was saved by a Good Samaritan. The incident began around 12:50 p.m., Sunday, March 14, in the Tarrytown area of the bridge, said Trooper Tara McCormick. According to McCormick the Good Samaritan, along with a tow truck driver, were able to talk with the woman and grab her before she could jump. Dashcam Video Shows Driver Saving School Kids Stuck On Busy Area Roadway
A Good Samaritan in Rockland County came to the rescue of some kids who found themselves in a potentially dangerous situation. Following last week’s snowstorm, more than a foot of snow piled up on some sidewalks in Monsey, making it more difficult to travel by foot. On Friday, Dec. 18, Lipa Rubin was stopped on Main Street near Orchard Street to allow two children to be dismissed from a school bus, one of whom struggled climbing a snowbank to get to the sidewalk as the bus drove off and traffic began flowing again.
