NY 17-Year-Old Who Died During Hockey Game Was 'Beacon Of Sportsmanship, Leadership'
The Long Island hockey community is mourning the loss of a rising young star who collapsed and died during a charity game over Thanksgiving weekend. Connor Kasin, age 17, lost consciousness at around 9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, during an intermission at the Town of Oyster Bay Skating Center on Stewart Avenue in Bethpage, Nassau County Police said. Kasin, a senior defenseman at Massapequa High School, was given CPR by bystanders and, later, Nassau County Police medics. He was pronounced dead a short time later at a hospital. NY Woman Sues Cold Stone Over Lack Of Pistachios In Ice Cream
A New York woman has filed a class action lawsuit against Cold Stone Creamery, claiming that the company falsely advertised a number of its flavors. The lawsuit, filed by Nassau County resident Jenna Marie Duncan, may soon move to court, according to documents. Duncan, who is from Farmingdale, claimed that in July 2022, she visited a Levittown Cold Stone for a frozen treat. She ordered the pistachio ice cream under the guise that it contained pistachios. A woman claimed a $1 million lottery prize from a ticket purchased at a Long Island store. Deborah Fletcher, a resident of Flint, Texas, won the prize from New York Lottery’s "$1,000,000 Bonus Word Cashword" scratch-off game, NY Lottery announced on Thursday, Dec. 15. Fletcher received her prize as a single, lump sum payment of $651,000 after required withholdings, the lottery said. A New York man was sentenced for his role in a $12 million Ponzi scheme that targeted nearly 50 victims from throughout the region and the nation between 2015 and 2017. Peloton has announced plans to shut down some of its facilities and lay off thousands of employees, including some workers in the region. FDA Recalls Drug From Long Island Supplier That May Contain High Levels Of Cancer-Causing Agent
The FDA has expanded a recall of a highly prescribed diabetes drug that may contain high levels of a cancer-causing agent. Metformin hydrochloride extended-release tablets, 500mg, & 750mg, was originally recalled in June, after it was found to contain higher-than-normal levels of a known carcinogen, the FDA said. In the new recall, an additional 76 lots of the drugs have been recalled. The original metformin drug that is not time-released is not included in the recall.
