Areas shown in light green are "leaning above average" in terms of snowfall. NOAA predicts temperatures should also lean above average. (See the second image above.) Old Farmer's Almanac Releases Outlook For Winter In Northeast
A brand-new forecast for the winter of 2022-23 is calling for a cold, snowy winter. It's in the 231st edition of the Old Farmer's Almanac, which says it has an 80-percent accuracy rate with its weather forecasts. “Depending on where you live, this will be the best of winters or memorable for all the wrong reasons,” said Janice Stillman, editor of The Old Farmer’s Almanac. “One half of the country will deal with bone-chilling cold and loads of snow, while the other half may feel like winter never really arrives.” Most of the Northeast will see a “cold, snowy” winter, according to the almana…

Farmers' Almanac Predicts Frigid, Stormy Winter For Northeast
The Farmers' Almanac has just released its predictions for the Northeast's winter weather and put short: get your shovels ready. Expect the cold to start earlier than usual. While most of the region is suffering under the sweltering summer sun, fall is just about the corner, and it will pack an early punch, the annual almanac claims. It will start with a Nor'easter that the Farmers' Almanac predicts will hit the Northeast in early October and bring with it buckets of rain. The cold air it brings with it won't leave the area any time soon. The bitter cold will reach the area by …

Winter Weather Outlook For Region Released By Farmers Almanacs
Want an early read on the weather outlook for the winter of 2020-21? There already are two forecasts by a pair of publications with long histories, and they're not exactly in agreement. "If you love the cold of winter, you’re going to love our forecast if you live in the northern half of the country," the Farmers' Almanac said. The Farmers’ Almanac says a major blizzard the second week of February will be among several big storms in our area. “This storm may bring up to 1-2 feet of snow to cities from Washington, D.C. to Boston,” the Farmers' Almanac writes. You can read the Farmers…

Get Ready For A Wetter, More Unpredictable Winter, NOAA Says In Long-Range Forecast
The winter of 2019-20 should bring more precipitation than normal, while the absence of either El Niño or La Niña will result in greater unpredictability. That's the long-range forecast by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) released on Thursday, Oct. 17, and covering December 2019 through February 2020. While the El Niño climate pattern often influences the winter, neutral conditions are in place for this winter and expected to persist into the spring. “Without either El Niño or La Niña conditions, short-term climate patterns like the Arctic Oscillation wi…

Three Long-Range Forecasts Call For Stormy Winter: Here's When First Snowfall Is Most Likely
With three separate long-range forecasts calling for a snowy and stormy winter in the area, the National Weather Service released a map showing the likely first day of snowfall for locations across the country. For most of the region, it's between Nov. 1 and Nov. 30. (See the map above.) The earliest accumulating snowfall recorded in New York City happened on Oct. 21, 1952. Now, to those long-range forecasts: The Old Farmer's Almanac predicts a "wet and wild" 2019-20 winter in the Northeast marked by "shivers, snowflakes ... and strong storms" with the "snow-verload" affecting mainl…
