A homecoming high school football game in the region was postponed because of a threat of gun violence. The threat was received several hours before the varsity contest in Dutchess County between rivals John Jay of East Fishkill and host Roy C. Ketcham in Wappingers Falls was scheduled to start Friday night, Oct. 20. 'Concerning' Interactions Between Person, Students At Hudson Valley HS Being Investigated
School officials in the Hudson Valley are warning of "concerning" interactions between an individual and students off-campus of a high school. The "incidents" have been taking place in Dutchess County outside of John Jay High School in East Fishkill, said Dr. Dwight Bonk, the superintendent of the Wappingers Central School District. Students at a Hudson Valley high school were held in the auditorium or on buses following a rumor that potentially threatening information was posted online. The incident took place in Dutchess County at the Roy C Ketcham High School at 99 Myers Corners Road in Wappingers Falls. Wappingers School District Names New Superintendent
A familiar face will be at the helm of the Wappingers School District going forward following a unanimous vote by the Board of Education. The district’s Board of Education appointed interim Superintendent Dr. Dwight Bonk as the permanent head of schools following a wide-ranging search following former Superintendent Jose Carrion’s retirement in the fall. A school in the area has returned to remote learning for at least 24 hours after a person tested positive for COVID-19. According to the Wappingers Central School District, the person associated with Gayhead Elementary School in Hopewell Junction tested positive for COVID on Sunday, Oct. 25, and is currently in isolation.
