Man Sentenced For Hammer Attack Of Hudson Valley Teen
A Hudson Valley man who beat a teen in the head with a sharp hammer has been sentenced to prison.
Orange County resident Shawn Beach, age 43, of Port Jervis was sentenced on Tuesday, Oct. 3 to 30 years in prison and five years of post-release supervision for the Dec. 2022 crime.
Beach, who was convicted in July by a jury, had a prior violent felony conviction from 2003, said Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler.
As alleged at trial, on Sunday, Dec. 11, 2022, Beach swung a hammer in the direction of a woman in a residence in the city of Port Jervis.

A Hudson Valley who hit a teen in the head with a hammer, fracturing his skull, has been found guilty of attempted murder and assault by a jury.
Orange County resident, Shawn Beach, age 43, of Port Jervis, was convicted on Friday, Aug. 18, said Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler.

Two police officers who fatally shot a mentally ill, intoxicated man allegedly menacing them with a knife were cleared of wrongdoing by a grand jury in Orange County.
On Thursday, March 19, the now-deceased man's mother, Beverly Parker, called the City of Port Jervis Police Department, saying that her son was “sitting here with a knife in his hand,” and was a “psych patient” who was “off his medication," according to Orange County District Attorney David M. An area woman has been sentenced to four years in state prison for selling heroin to a woman who later died from an overdose.
Orange County resident Ashley Parker, 27, of Deerpark, was sentenced on Wednesday, Jan. 22, in connection with the May 2019 death of a Port Jervis woman, said Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler.
According to the District Attorney's office, Parker pleaded guilty to criminally negligent homicide and criminal sale of a controlled substance on Nov. 14, 2019.
