Suspect Nabbed After Troopers Find Him Sleeping With Stolen Goods In Capital Region: Police
Troopers found a man sleeping in a wooded area with stolen goods following a break-in at a business in the region. State Police in Rensselaer County responded to the incident early Wednesday, Nov. 6, after reports of a past burglary at a business on Maple Hill Road in the town of Schodack. Nicholas T. Layman, age 29, of the town of Nassau, allegedly forced entry into the business around 4:30 a.m., damaging the door and taking items before leaving, said police. Not So Fast: Wanted Fisherman Tries Fleeing From Capital Region Cops In Rideshare, Police Say
In hindsight, it probably wasn’t the most efficient means of escape. A Greene County fisherman found himself in handcuffs after he allegedly attempted to flee from police in a rideshare vehicle. The incident happened Tuesday, July 2, along Catskill Creek in the town of Durham. Officers with the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) spotted a man and woman fishing and asked for their fishing licenses. Man Struck, Killed By Amtrak Train In Capital Region
A man has died after being struck by an Amtrak train in the region. The Rensselaer County incident happened in the town of Schodack, along River Road, just before 9 a.m. Friday, July 5. New York State Police an Amtrak train stopped and called emergency services after striking a pedestrian. Authorities located the man and pronounced him dead at the scene a short time later. Police are withholding his identity until his family has been notified. The railroad tracks were closed in both directions for nearly 3 ½ hours while crews investigated. The railway has since reopened.
