'Profound Loss': Fire Chief, Grandfather Killed In NY Work Zone Crash Colleagues and loved ones are mourning the loss of a Department of Transportation employee, longtime fire chief, and beloved grandfather who was killed while overseeing a road project in upstate New York. Hoosick Falls Fire Chief Robert Bornt, 54, was struck by a vehicle while working as a highway maintenance supervisor on State Route 7 in Pittstown on Thursday, May 29, as Daily Voice previously reported. Bornt, of Hoosick Falls, suffered critical injuries and was airlifted to Albany Medical Center, where he died the next day, according to New York State Police. No arrests have been made,…

Southern State Hit-Run: Long Island Man Charged With DUI After Crashing Into Cruisers A man faces a driving under the influence charge after police say his Toyota RAV4 struck two New York State Police vehicles on Long Island. The crash occurred just after midnight on Saturday, Nov. 16 on the eastbound lanes of the Southern State Parkway near exits 39 and 40S in Babylon. Extended Closures Planned For Portion Of Long Island Expressway Extended lane closures on the Long Island Expressway could spell delays for drivers in the coming months. In the town of Brookhaven, two lanes of westbound I-495 will close nightly between Exit 64 and Exit 67 from 8 p.m. until 10 p.m. before all westbound lanes close until 5 a.m., the Department of Transportation said.
