Nassau County police officers yanked an 80-year-old woman from her car and tossed her to the ground, then claimed she attacked them and filed criminal charges, according to a federal lawsuit.
Betty Cater, now 81, filed the suit Friday, March 20 in New York’s Eastern District. The criminal charges against her were later dropped.

Nehemiah Byers, of Amityville, was taken into custody Tuesday night, Jan. 27, after allegedly robbing businesses in Copiague, Amityville, and Farmingdale while displaying what appeared to be a handgun, Suffolk County Police said.
Byers was arrested on Broadway in Amityville at about 9:48 p.m. Wednesday by First Precinct Anti-Crime officers, shortly after a robbery at a Farmingdale business, police said.

A Brooklyn man is accused of biting an officer while resisting arrest at Roosevelt Field Mall in Garden City, Nassau County police announced on Wednesday, Oct. 15.
Detectives said officers responded to a trespassing call at the mall on Old Country Road at 7:43 p.m. When they arrived, they found Michael Dubrow, 54, of Chestnut Street, who had previously been banned from the property.

Selvin Watts, 42, of Brown Avenue, was stopped on an electric scooter at 12:15 a.m. on Argyle Avenue near Nassau Road, according to First Squad Detectives.
