From Rave Reviews To Raid: Police Arrest Three At Long Island Spa
D&J Spa in Mastic boasted five-star reviews for its “lovely staff” and “amazing service,” but Suffolk County Police say community complaints led to a raid that ended with three arrests on Friday, Aug. 29.
The Seventh Precinct Crime Section launched an investigation into the spa at 1360 Montauk Highway after repeated neighborhood concerns, police said.
During the raid, officers arrested three employees:

Son Killed In Long Island House Fire, Parents Hospitalized With Smoke Inhalation
A man died in a house fire that broke out on Overlook Drive in Mastic, Suffolk County Police said on Monday, May 5.
Firefighters were called to 67 Overlook Drive at 6:40 p.m. after 911 callers reported a blaze consuming the home, according to a police release.
Two residents, John Gaeta, 80, and Maryann Gaeta, 81, were able to escape the flames. Their son, Frank Gaeta, 56, was found dead on the back deck, police said.
John and Maryann Gaeta were transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.

Motel Murder: Man Admits Stabbing Housemate To Death On Long Island
Nearly two years after a man was stabbed to death at a Long Island motel, his killer formally confessed.
Philip Walker, 58, of Mastic, pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter in Suffolk County Court on Tuesday, Feb. 18, in the death of Jimmy Vaughn.
Walker and Vaughn, 63, were both living in a group home at the Shirley Motel on Montauk Highway when emergency crews were called to the motel for a stabbing on June 30, 2023.

30-Year-Old From Mastic Dies After Being Found Injured On Moriches Roadway
A local man has died after being found unconscious on a Long Island roadway.
At about 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 5, a 911 caller reported the injured man lying on the road in Moriches, Suffolk County Police said.
The man, John Ballard, age 30, of Mastic, was rushed to Long Island Community Hospital in Patchogue.
On Thursday morning, Aug. 8, police reported that Ballard died of his injuries on Wednesday, Aug. 7.
An investigation by Suffolk County Police Major Case Unit detectives determined Ballard was operating an electric skateboard when he fell, causing his injuries.

Two Long Island men were nabbed for allegedly stealing used cooking oil from 14 businesses.
Oliver Lorenzo Valdez, age 30, of Central Islip, and Juan Hernandez, age 28, of Brentwood, were charged on Tuesday, June 25, after being spotted behind the Gourmet Garden in Center Moriches.

Two men have been accused of burglarizing multiple businesses and stealing ATMs on Long Island.
Following an investigation by Suffolk County Police Major Case Unit detectives, the two were arrested and charged with a series of commercial burglaries and an attempted burglary between Tuesday, March 5, and Monday, March 11.
During the burglaries, police say, John Mahoney, 41, of Mastic, and Jamie Volini, age 46, of East Patchogue, forced entry through broken doors and windows into closed gas stations and businesses and damaged or stole the ATMs.

Dylan Mulvihill, age 30, was arrested on Wednesday, May 29, New York State Police announced.
