Rider Who Punched Conductor Over Ticket Gets Jail Time, DA Says
A Long Island man who slugged an LIRR conductor over a train ticket was sentenced Monday, May 11 to jail time. Anthony Dean, 40, must serve 90 days behind bars for the assault, the Nassau County District Attorney’s office said. Dean was riding an LIRR train on the Port Jefferson Branch bound for Huntington Station on March 8 when the conductor approached him for the ticket, authorities said. But Dean didn’t have a ticket, so he punched the conductor in the face and fled at the Carle Place station, according to investigators. A man was struck and killed by a Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) train Tuesday morning, July 8. Emergency crews in Hicksville responded to the tracks near New South Road and Mineola Avenue for reports of a pedestrian struck by a train at around 9:40 a.m., an MTA spokesperson told Daily Voice. The man, identified as 60-year-old Hector Collazo, of Hicksville, was on the tracks illegally when he was struck by an eastbound LIRR train, officials said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. 7 Charged In Overnight Sobriety Checkpoint In Central Islip
Seven people are facing charges after an overnight sobriety checkpoint on Long Island. Police officers from the Suffolk County Police Department’s Highway SAFE-T Team (Selective Alcohol Fatality Enforcement Team) conducted the joint operation in the LIRR parking lot in Central Islip located at 870 Suffolk Ave., from 11 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30 until 2:35 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31.
