A man crossing Old Country Road was killed in a hit-and-run on New Year’s Day, and a Queens woman has now been indicted in the fatal crash, Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly announced on Friday, July 25.
Veronica Marmol, 40, allegedly struck and killed 38-year-old Kevin Lawry while he was crossing the road with a friend in Plainview on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025 at 5:55 p.m., according to the charges.

Authorities uncovered a dogfighting operation at a Hempstead drug dealer’s home, police said.
Kevin Brown, 39, pleaded not guilty to 34 counts, including drug and animal fighting charges, in Nassau County Court on Wednesday, March 12, after police executed a search warrant at his Willow Avenue residence.
