Full Closures Planned For Portion Of Sunrise Highway Scheduled highway closures could cause delays for Long Island drivers in the coming days. In Suffolk County, all eastbound lanes of Sunrise Highway are slated to close nightly between Exit 49 in Islip and Exit 54 in Brookhaven beginning at 10 p.m. Monday, June 10. The closures will last until 5 a.m. each day through Friday, June 14, according to the Department of Transportation. Southern State Parkway Fatality: Victim ID'd In Wrong-Way Long Island Crash Authorities have identified a Long Island man who was killed by a wrong-way driver on the Southern State Parkway. The crash happened at around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 21, near Exit 43A in Islip. New York State Police said a 2004 Buick was going westbound in the eastbound lanes when it collided with a Honda motorcycle, ejecting the rider from his bike. The motorcycle operator, 42-year-old Hugo Cajamarca, of Patchogue, was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said. The other driver was treated for minor injuries.
