A basement fire tore through an apartment building in North Valley Stream, injuring a firefighter and forcing residents from their homes on Thursday, April 30.
Flames and heavy smoke were reported at 1027 Fenwood Drive around 4:48 p.m., prompting a large emergency response, according to Nassau County detectives.
Officers arrived to find fire conditions in the basement, with smoke and flames spreading through the building, authorities said.

The shooting happened behind One Stop Deli at 150 West Pulaski Road in Huntington Station at approximately 4:15 p.m. on Monday, April 20, according to Suffolk County Police.
