Nassau Power Outage Caused By Driver Slamming Into Utility Pole: Officials A Long Island driver slammed into a power line, knocking out electricity to part of a high school and other structures on Thursday, May 21, officials said. The driver struck a power pole at Stewart Avenue and Maple Avenue in Bethpage, according to John F. Scalesi Jr., a member of the Nassau County Police Department commissioner’s council. Power was knocked out for half of Bethpage High School, along with “a lot” of houses and street lights, Scalesi said.
