Car Fire Blocking Multiple Lanes Of Long Island Highway During Evening Commute A car fire was blocking multiple lanes of a Long Island highway during the evening commute Tuesday, Jan. 21. Fire and aid crews were dispatched to the Wantagh State Parkway in East Meadow for a car fire in the southbound lanes near Stewart Avenue shortly before 6 p.m. All but one of the eastbound lanes were blocked by emergency responders, Department of Transportation cameras showed. Full Closure Planned For Northern State Parkway Stretch Scheduled roadwork could spell delays for Long Island drivers this weekend. A stretch of the Northern State Parkway will undergo a full closure in the village of Westbury overnight Sunday, Dec. 8, according to the New York State Department of Transportation. Beginning at 10 p.m., all eastbound lanes will shut down at exit 33 (Wantagh State Parkway) until 5 a.m. the following morning. Traffic will follow a signed detour during that time. ID Released For Man Killed In Hit-Run Long Island DWI Crash The identity has been released of a man killed in a hit-and-run Long Island crash involving an allegedly drunk driver. The crash happened around 4 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, in Westbury. A 2006 gray Chrysler Sebring was traveling eastbound on Old Country Road when it struck a bicyclist near the intersection of State Street.  The bicyclist sustained extensive injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by a Nassau County Police paramedic.
