Long Island House Fire Leaves Family Dog Dead
A house fire on Long Island left a dog dead.
The blaze began at about 4 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 17 on Seaman Road in Jericho.
Responders arrived to find the home engulfed in flames from the second floor and heavy smoke throughout.
All residents made it out safely, though the family’s dog was found dead inside.
The Nassau County PD Arson Bomb Squad and the Nassau County Fire Marshal are investigating.
Firefighters from Jericho, with assistance from Syosset, Hicksville, Westbury, Plainview, Bethpage, South Farmingdale, Glenwood, and Carle Place, responded and extinguished the fire.

On Long Island, Peter Miller, age 56, and Pamela Miller, age 55, were each sentenced to community service in Suffolk County Court on Thursday, Nov. 7, in the deaths of Lindsay and Jillian Wiener, CBS New York reports.
The 19-year-old Lindsay and 21-year-old Jillian, both of Potomac, Maryland, were vacationing with their brother and parents at the Millers’ Noyac home when the blaze broke out on the morning of Aug. 3, 2022.

Long Island resident Michael McDougall, age 65, of Roosevelt, was indicted on manslaughter and related charges in Nassau County Court on Tuesday, Oct. 29, in the death of his mother, McDougall.
His sister, Nichole McDougall-Mullings, age 55, of Roosevelt, was also charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person.

Man Nabbed For Forcibly Touching Woman At Long Island Stop & Shop, Police Say
A months-long investigation has led to the arrest of a man who is accused of forcibly touching a woman at a Long Island Stop & Shop.
Nassau County Police say the suspect was apprehended late Monday afternoon, Oct. 14, in Uniondale.
While inside the store in Merrick located at 2160 Merrick Mall, on Monday, July 8., he forcibly touched a 36-year-old woman before fleeing the store in an unknown direction, Nassau County Police say.
Following the investigation, Delano Brathwaite, age 27, who police say is homeless, was identified as the suspect.

Support is building for the family of a young father and wrestling standout from Long Island who was killed in a shooting.
Lee Mauras, age 22, originally from Hempstead, was shot at around 2:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, in a parking lot in downtown Portland, Oregon, police told local station KATU. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities did not speculate on a possible motive for the shooting. No suspects had been arrested as of Tuesday, Oct. 8.

Michelle Cuccias-Weidenbach, of Massapequa, died at the age of 46 on Tuesday, Oct. 1, according to her obituary.

27-Year-Old Accused Of Promoting Prostitution, Sex Trafficking On Long Island
A man has been accused of sex trafficking and promoting prostitution on Long Island.
Queens resident Wilson Rodriguez Peralta, 27, of Maspeth, was arrested without incident on Friday night, Oct. 4 in Hicksville, following a Nassau County Police investigation.
Peralta has been charged with:
Sex trafficking,
Criminal possession of a controlled substance,
Promoting prostitution.
He was scheduled to be arraigned Saturday, Oct. 5, at First District Court in Hempstead.

Son, Daughter's Abuse Led To Death Of Long Island Woman, Police Say
A brother and sister from Long Island are accused of abusing their elderly mother to the point the woman died.
Nassau County Police were called to a Roosevelt home at around 2:40 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, to perform a welfare check.
Inside, officers found 85-year-old Carmel McDougall unresponsive. She was taken to a hospital and died days later, on Wednesday, Sept. 18.
An investigation found that McDougall’s 65-year-old son, Michael McDougall, was responsible for the injuries that caused her death, police said.
