Governor Provides Update On Wildfires In Hudson Valley
As the wildfires continue to burn across the Hudson Valley, Gov. Kathy Hochul updated what's being done to mitigate and contain them. On Tuesday, Nov. 12, Hochul said a multi-agency response had been deployed to fires in Orange and Ulster counties in close coordination with local fire departments and first responders. According to Hochul, an aerial investigation shows the Orange County fire named the Jennings Creek/Sterling State Park wildfire in New York and New Jersey now encompasses 5,000 acres, half of which is in New York, and is 10 percent contained in both states. Massive Wildfire In Hudson Valley Spreads To 600 Acres
A massive wildfire in the Hudson Valley is now 95 percent contained as firefighters continue establishing a control line to try and gain full containment. The Whitehouse Fire in Ulster County in Denning had grown to 630 areas as of late Monday, Nov. 11. Air Quality Alert: Widespread Smoke From Canadian Wildfires Lingers Throughout Region
An Air Quality Alert is in effect for much of the Northeast as smoke drifting south from more than 400 Canadian wildfires lingers. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of fine particulates, according to the National Weather Service. A Hudson Valley town near the massive 150-acre wildfire consuming a section of a state park has issued a state of emergency and instituted a burn ban. The Ulster County town of Shawangunk issued the order and the band on Sunday, Aug. 28 after the fire was sparked by a lightning strike in the Minnewaska State Park in Ellenville. Gov. Kathy Hochul has deployed the New York Army and Air National Guards to help extinguish a Hudson Valley wildfire at a state park that has grown from 30 acres to between 130 and 150 acres. NYC Resident Accused Of Starting Wildfire In Region
A New York City resident allegedly violated the statewide brush burn ban which caused a wildland fire in the region. On Tuesday, March 22 at 4:15 p.m., state forest rangers responded to an open burn in Sullivan County off Route 209 in the town of Mamakating, said the state Department of Environmental Conservation.
