Man Dies After Jumping From Bridge In Area
A local man was killed after he jumped from an area bridge.
The incident took place around 6:05 p.m., Saturday, April 24 in Dutchess County when 37-year-old Brendan J. Paredes, of Wappinger, jumped from the bridge on the Walkway Over the Hudson in the City of Poughkeepsie, said New York State Police Trooper AJ Hicks.
State Police, New York State Park Police, City of Poughkeepsie Police Department, Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, and the City of Poughkeepsie Fire Department all responded to the bridge in an attempt to rescue Paredes, Hicks said.

71-Year-Old Charged In Connection To Killing Of Another Woman In Area, Police Say
State Police have arrested a woman on manslaughter charges in connection to the alleged killing of another woman.
Joan M. Darcy, age 71, of Wappinger, was arrested on Wednesday, April 7, and charged with manslaughter for the November death of the other woman.
On Thursday, Nov. 5, State Police from the Wappinger barracks responded to a residence on Scarborough Lane in the town of Wappinger for a deceased woman, Hicks said.
An investigation revealed the victim, identified as Carol A. Darcy, 72, died of blunt force injuries.

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Dutchess is getting closer to 1,000 as the death toll in the county rose slightly in the past week as the county recovers from the second surge of the virus.

Health officials are now monitoring 819 active cases as of Thursday, Feb. 18, down from more than 1,000 as recently as Friday, Feb. 11.
