A brush fire that posed a potential threat to school buses in the Hudson Valley was quickly extinguished thanks to the swift actions of volunteer firefighters, including several students. The fire happened in Putnam County on the evening of Friday, Nov. 8, 2024, when flames were reported to be dangerously close to Mahopac Central School District buses on Myrtle Avenue in Mahopac, according to the Mahopac Falls Volunteer Fire Department. Beloved Deputy Sheriff In Dutchess County Known For His Love Of Dinosaurs Dies
A much beloved deputy sheriff in the region known for being a part-time comedian and his love of dinosaurs has died after a courageous battle with cancer. Nicholas Gasparre, age 36, a lifelong Hudson Valley resident, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, Nov. 15, surrounded by his family, friends, and his brothers and sisters of the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office. He began serving the country as a volunteer firefighter for the Beekman Fire District. According to his obituary, he also served in the US Marine Corps, attaining the rank of Lance Corporal during the war on terrorism. …

Massive Wildfire In Hudson Valley Spreads To 600 Acres
A massive wildfire in the Hudson Valley is now 95 percent contained as firefighters continue establishing a control line to try and gain full containment. The Whitehouse Fire in Ulster County in Denning had grown to 630 areas as of late Monday, Nov. 11. Dog Rescued From Icy Pond In Northern Westchester
Volunteer firefighters in the area are being hailed as heroes for rescuing a dog that fell through the ice of a Northern Westchester pond. At around 2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 7, when Pleasantville firefighters were notified that a dog named Miller was stuck in Opperman's Pond and unable to climb out. Treasurer Pleads Guilty To Stealing $37K From Hudson Valley Fire Department, DA Says
A Hudson Valley fire department treasurer has pleaded guilty to stealing more than $37,000 from the department's coffers Rockland County District Attorney Tom Walsh announced Tuesday, Dec. 14, the plea of guilty by Christopher Nau, a Spring Valley Volunteer Firefighter to grand larceny. The Putnam County Sheriff’s Department is using "Throwback Thursday" to look back on the fire that forever altered the landscape of Carmel as we know it today.
