Head-On Crash Kills Hudson Valley Man
A man was killed in a two-vehicle head-on collision on a busy Hudson Valley roadway.
The crash, which took place in Orange County on Route 17 in the town of Tuxedo, happened around 4 a.m., Wednesday, July 28, between a 2017 International box truck and a 2015 Nissan Sentra, said Trooper Steven Nevel.
According to a preliminary investigation, the box truck, driven by Rockland County resident Eluzer Silber, age 31, of Monsey, was traveling north on Route 17 in the town of Tuxedo, when it collided head-on with the Sentra driven by Michael Wyka, age 63, from the town of Monroe.

25-Year-Old Killed In Chain-Reaction, Three Vehicle Crash In Area
A 25-year-old was killed in a chain-reaction crash involving three motorcycles in the area.
It happened in Orange County on Sunday, Aug. 9 at approximately 5:15 p.m. in the town of Tuxedo.
An investigation revealed that three motorcycles were traveling on Kanawauke Road when one of the motorcycles, a 2009 Suzuki, operated by the victim, Mohammed Kamil, was unable to negotiate a curve and struck one of the motorcycles in the group, a 2008 Harley Davidson, state police said.
The collision caused Kamil, of Brooklyn, to be thrown from his motorcycle, according to police.

Man Arrested On Thruway For Fleeing Police In Stolen Car, Police Say
A 33-year-old man who allegedly fled from state troopers on the Thruway was nabbed for driving a stolen vehicle.
John C. Johnson, 33, of Paterson, New Jersey, was arrested around 10 a.m., Thursday, March 5, after troopers received a report of a vehicle pursuit entering the state from New Jersey, involving a stolen vehicle, said New York State Police.
Troopers attempted to stop the vehicle on I-87 in the town of Tuxedo. While attempting to avoid police, Johnson's vehicle struck the guide rail sustaining heavy damage and continued for a short time before driving off the road.

A late-night traffic stop by New York State Police troopers in the Hudson Valley led to weapons charges for two men who were allegedly in possession of a loaded handgun and illegal ammunition.
Troopers conducted a traffic stop at approximately 1:45 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25, when a driver committed a vehicle and traffic violation in Tuxedo.
According to police, while speaking to the driver, Newark, Delaware resident Devon Ward, 20, and his passenger, Rochester resident Jaquan Gilbert, 19, troopers were given probable cause to search the vehicle.

Town Supervisor Accused Of Driving Drunk After Hitting Utility Pole
A town supervisor in the Hudson Valley was arrested after hitting a utility pole while allegedly driving drunk, said the New York State Police.
The incident took place late Thursday, Aug. 22, or early Friday, Aug. 23 in Orange County, said Trooper Steven Nevel, a spokesman for the department.
Nevel said he had not received an official report yet, but according to the officer on the scene, Tuxedo Town Supervisor Michael Rost was driving southbound on Route 17 when he was involved in a single-vehicle crash, Nevel said.

Hunters in the Hudson Valley were among the most proficient in taking bears, according to the DEC’s Black Bear Harvest summary.
During the 2018-2019 hunting season, New Yorkers hunted down 1,295 black bears statewide, a decrease of 125 from the previous year.
Of the bears that were hunted, 349 were killed by bow, 66 were killed by a muzzleloader and 11 were taken by youth hunters. In the Southern Zone, 804 bears were killed, 60 percent of which were male, and 491 bears were killed in the Northern Zone.

A Rockland County duo are facing a series of drug charges after being busted by state police with heroin, cocaine and synthetic marijuana during a routine traffic stop on I-87 in Tuxedo.
Shortly after 8:45 p.m. on March 24, state police troopers on patrol stopped Newburgh resident Humperto Borges, Jr., 41, on the interstate for a vehicle and traffic violation. During the subsequent stop, police said troopers were given probable cause to search the vehicle and its occupants.
