'Demanding Better': Nurses In Westchester County To Rally For Safe Staffing, Fair Contract
A group of nurses in Westchester County will soon rally to demand safer staffing practices and a better contract from the hospital they work at. The speak-out will be held on Friday, Nov. 18 at noon in Yonkers in front of the St. Joseph’s Medical Center, according to the New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA). The lowest percentage of hospital employees who have received the COVID-19 vaccine in New York reside in the Hudson Valley. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said that 57.9 percent of hospital workers in the Hudson Valley have received the COVID-19 vaccine, while statewide, a total of 60.8 percent of medical professionals have been vaccinated. The Westchester mother of a 16-year-old girl who was among seven dead in an adenovirus outbreak at the Wanaque Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in North Jersey is demanding answers, ABC7 reports. Elizabeth Poulous of Ossining was in St. Joseph's Medical Center in Paterson, New Jersey with a raging fever at the time of her diagnosis, her mom Kristine Poulous told the outlet.
