Could Third-Party Candidates Play Spoiler Roles In November Governor's Race? Stay Tuned Related, updates in this Daily Voice story.  The leaders of a small but influential Working Families Party are scheduled to vote on Wednesday, Oct. 3 to decide whether to keep Cynthia Nixon as its candidate for governor on Nov. 6, or endorse Gov. Andrew Cuomo and avoid playing the role of a spoiler. Green Party candidate Howie Hawkins also is seeking to be on the WFP ballot line on Nov. 6 instead of Nixon. Westchester Mayor Joins Governor's Race As Stephanie Miner's Running Mate Pelham Mayor Michael Volpe plans to run for state lieutenant governor on an Independent party line with former Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner. Miner, a registered Democrat, is running against Gov. Andrew Cuomo of New Castle as an independent candidate -- as reported here by Daily Voice. Volpe said he will continue as Pelham's mayor while running for statewide office.
