Multi-Million Dollar Scheme: 8 NYers Accused Of Scamming Government For Services Never Provided
Eight New Yorkers who owned, operated, or were employees of several transportation companies have been accused of scamming the government out of millions of dollars for services never provided.
The indictments were unsealed on Long Island at federal court in Central Islip on Tuesday, June 11.
Seven of the eight are from Long Island and the other from New York City:
Noman Ahmed, age 37, Port Jefferson Station;
Adnan Arshad, also known as “Eddie,” age 45, Mount Sinai;
Rehman Diwan, age 24, Hicksville;
Jessica Hendrickson, age 36, Patchogue;

A Long Island man has claimed a winning lottery prize worth $1 million.
Vincent Franco, of Patchogue, hit it big on the Cash X20 scratch-off game, according to the New York Lottery.
Franco received a lump sum payment of $494,760 after paying taxes.
The lucky ticket was purchased in Holbrook, at the Akshar Card & Gift at 342 Union Avenue.
As of Tuesday, June 6, there were two top prizes remaining on the Cash X20 ticket, lottery officials said.

Father, Daughter Wanted In Girl Scout Cookie Scam Targeting Local NY Residents
Police in New York are reporting they have received at least 11 complaints from residents who said they gave to buy Girl Scouts cookies that were never delivered.
The incidents on Long Island were reported to Suffolk County Police between Saturday, June 18, and Monday, June 20, the department said.
Police say the alleged cookie scam took place in the following communities: Lake Ronkonkoma, Bohemia, and Patchogue, to Shirley to Mastic.
The money was given to a man who accompanied a young girl during some of the incidents, and in others, the girl was alone, police said.

A 21-year-old New Yorker impressed the judges during his audition for singing competition American Idol.
Long Island resident Christian Guardino, of Patchogue, performed "A Song For You" by Donny Hathaway for judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry, and Lionel Richie, in his audition for the show's 20th season, which aired on Sunday, March 6.
After performing the song, Richie stood up and hugged Guardino and asked him to invite his mother into the audition room.

Worker From Northern Westchester Dies After Falling From Business Roof
A worker from Westchester died after falling off the roof of a Long Island business, police said.
The incident happened in Suffolk County on Monday, Jan. 18 at around 3:40 p.m.
Hector Aranda-Sanchez, age 27, of Peekskill, an employee of a Yonkers-based roofing company, was on the roof of Four Seasons Sunrooms and Windows, located at 5005 Veterans Memorial Highway in Holbrook, when he fell from the roof, police said.
Aranda-Sanchez was transported to Long Island Community Hospital in Patchogue, where he was pronounced dead.
