While there has been an overwhelming amount of news these days, the month of January has been relatively uneventful when it comes to the weather. But a storm system that brought mainly rain to most of the region kicked off the weekend with some areas north and inland seeing 1 to 3 inches of snowfall, with a few parts of New England getting between one foot to 18 inches of snow accumulation. New Potent Storm System Will Bring Rain Throughout Area, Snow To Parts Of Region
A week that began with a big storm accompanied by heavy rain and strong winds that caused power outages will end with another potent system that will push through the region. Unlike the storm that hit the area on Monday, Nov. 30, this one has the potential to bring a mix of snow and rain north of I-84 in New York and Connecticut and accumulating snowfall in areas farther north and inland. Strong Winds Will Blow Through With Gusts Up To 50 MPH That Could Cause Power Outages
A new round of scattered showers and thunderstorms will sweep through the area, but strong winds will be the story. A wind advisory starts at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, and stays in effect until 2 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 8 for most of the region. (Areas in brown in the map above.) In some parts of New England, a High Wind Warning has been issued. During that time, there will be gusts up to 50 miles per hour. Hurricane Teddy is projected to become a major hurricane and could directly hit Bermuda as it moves northwest, generating large swells expected to reach parts of the East Coast of the United States. Winter Weather Outlook For Region Released By Farmers Almanacs
Want an early read on the weather outlook for the winter of 2020-21? There already are two forecasts by a pair of publications with long histories, and they're not exactly in agreement. Tracking Hurricane Isaias: Region Remains In Latest Projected Path
This region, and much of the Northeast, remains within the projected path of the second named hurricane of the season. The latest forecast track for Category 1 storm Isaias, including its "cone of uncertainty," was released Saturday morning, Aug. 1 by the National Hurricane Center. (See first image above.) Stop & Shop workers are back on the job across New England, including in Connecticut, after an agreement was reached following an 11-day strike by 31,000 union workers in Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts. A large storm will that sweep through the area overnight Monday into Tuesday will bring up to 2 inches of rainfall to this area and as much as a half-foot of snow in parts of upstate New York and New England.
