The chopper pilot from the Hudson Valley who was killed in a helicopter crash while attempting to land on a Manhattan skyscraper was not licensed to be flying in the bad weather conditions, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. Tim McCormack, a longtime volunteer firefighter and former fire chief in Dutchess County, was the only victim of the crash on Monday, June 10 after he took off from the 34th Street heliport and crash-landed on top of a 750-foot building in the rain and fog. A glider plane lost power and crashed through the roof of a home in Danbury, according to the City of Danbury Fire Department. The Danbury Fire Department received an alert regarding a glider plane that had crashed into a home on Golden Hill Avenue on Tuesday, June 4 around 6 p.m. Further investigation revealed that a 2016 Alisport Silent 2 Electro glider plane from Danbury Municipal Airport lost power, and the pilot conducted an emergency landing that placed the plane through the roof of the occupied residence, according to the fire department. A 33-year-old Fairfield County man was the pilot and sole survivor of a helicopter that crashed in the East River in Manhattan, killing five, according to multiple sources.
