I-84 Bridge Replacements Start
New York State Department of Transportation crews are set to begin work in earnest on a multi-million dollar bridge replacement project on I-84 in Dutchess County. ID Released For Man Struck, Killed By Metro-North Train
Police have identified the Westchester man who was fatally struck by a Metro-North train near the Beacon station late last week. A Metro-North spokesperson identified 29-year-old Yonkers resident Joseph Lanza as the unauthorized man who was struck and killed by a train at approximately 12:24 p.m. on Thursday, April 5 on the tracks just south of the Beacon station. According to the Metro-North spokesperson, Lanza was struck by the 10:43 a.m. train from Grand Central that was due into Poughkeepsie at 12:33 p.m. on the day he was hit. Metro-North Issues St. Patrick’s Day Booze Ban
Irish eyes will be smiling throughout the area during St. Patrick’s Day on Saturday, though not as much on any Metro-North Railroad lines, where booze is banned on one of the busiest drinking days of the year. Operating On Reduced Schedule, Metro-North Sees Crowded Platforms, Delays
Service has been partially restored on most Metro-North Railroad lines after downed trees on local tracks forced MTA officials to suspend operations on Wednesday night. Metro-North is operating on a reduced schedule on Thursday, with all lines open except for the New Canaan and Danbury branches, which remain suspended. Cuomo Declares State Of Emergency For Westchester
A state of emergency has been declared by Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Sunday in four Hudson Valley counties: Westchester, Putnam, Dutchess and Sullivan. Responders in the four counties continue to recover from the Nor'easter that affected the entire state the past several days. Not Over Yet: Treacherous Travel With Downed Trees, Slick Roads In Area
It's not over yet. The Nor'easter tearing through the area has left thousands without power, hundreds of downed trees and power lines and numerous road closures, resulting in treacherous travel that will continue through Saturday morning. In the Hudson Valley, an 11-year-old boy was killed Friday afternoon when a tree crashed through a home amid the storm in Putnam County. One town in the area, Greenburgh, had 13 downed tree incidents as of late Friday afternoon. First Woman Named Metro-North President
Catherine Rinaldi has been named the first female president of Metro-North Railroad. Rinaldi, has served as acting president of Metro-North since July 2017, and previously was Metro-North’s executive vice president, beginning in 2015. On Wednesday, Feb. 21 she was officially named president. She replaces Joe Giulietti who resigned last July after three years leading the railroad. Giulietti became Metro-North’s president in 2014, following railroad troubles that included a Bridgeport derailment in 2013.
