Gov. Kathy Hochul is urging New Yorkers to prepare for potentially severe weather this weekend. As thunderstorms are expected across the state this weekend - especially today and Sunday, July 9 - bringing the potential for impacts in flood-prone areas, New Yorkers are being advised to monitor their local forecast for the latest weather conditions and to sign up for emergency alerts. An approaching cold front will bring a new line of showers and thunderstorms to the region. The projected time frame for storm activity is from late in the afternoon Tuesday, June 27 until late Tuesday evening, the National Weather Service says. There will be a threat of severe storms in much of the region with damaging winds, flash flooding, hail, and isolated tornadoes possible. Ian has strengthened to Category 4 hurricane status and its projected path has changed as it nears a direct hit on the southwest Florida coast with the potential to be one of the most devastating and costly storms in US history. A line of severe storms is moving through the region from west to east on Saturday afternoon, May 28. Storm activity is expected to continue into early Saturday evening. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has just been issued for the region. It's in effect until 8 p.m. Monday, May 16. It's been a stormy stretch of weather in the days leading up to Halloween.
