Led by a strong showing downstate, New York is well-represented on U.S. News & World Report's brand-new rankings of the nation's best high schools. The rankings were released on Tuesday, Aug. 29. Former HS Varsity Coach Sentenced For Raping Teen Girl In Westchester
A former assistant varsity coach in Westchester has been sentenced for having sexual contact with a minor. Tyler Sick, the 30-year-old from Tarrytown who taught in New York City and acted as a wrestling coach at Edgemont High School, pleaded guilty in court on over the summer to two counts of rape after being accused of having sex with a teenage girl in Greenburgh in 2016. 18-Year-Old Sentenced For Killing Westchester Woman, 23, In Panama
An appeal is already in the works after a teenager tried as a juvenile received a 12-year prison sentence for strangling a 23-year-old Westchester woman to death in Panama last year. Catherine Johannet, a 2011 graduate of Edgemont High School, was found dead on Feb. 5, 2017 beside a trail on Isla Colon in Bastimentos after she had been reported as missing.
