Woman Drove Wrong Way On I-84, State Police Say
A 36-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly driving in the wrong direction on I-84.
Vanessa Alejos, of Newington, was arrested around 11:22 p.m., Wednesday, June 17, in Hartford County, by Connecticut State Police for driving the wrong way on I- 84 in East Hartford, state police said.
Troopers were alerted to the wrong-way driver by callers and were able to track down and pull over Alejos near Exit 56, they said.
Alejos was charged with four counts of construction zone violations, failing to comply with fingerprinting and interfering with an officer, state police said.

Motorcyclist Hits 100 MPH In Taconic Parkway Police Chase, Police Say
A 36-year-old motorcyclist who tried to outrun Yorktown Police attempting a to stop him for speeding was eventually nabbed after police had to call off the chase.
The chase took place around 5:52 p.m., Saturday, March 27, when a Yorktown Police officer attempted to stop Kafian Gooden, of East Hartford, Connecticut, for speeding on Crompond Road, said the Yorktown Police.
But, instead of stopping, Gooden fled onto the Taconic State Parkway at speeds exceeding 100 mph while unsafely passing other motorists and committing numerous traffic violations, police said.

A school bus driver has been identified as one of the two people killed during a fiery I-84 crash that also involved three tractor-trailers.
Verlean Douglas, 67, of South Windsor, was the driver of a First Student school bus that was rear-ended by a tractor-trailer truck in East Hartford, around 5 a.m., Monday, June 3, said the Connecticut State Police.
The driver of the tractor-trailer that hit the back of the school bus, Norman Blair Bliss, 52, of Etters, Pennsylvania, was also killed.

Two Dead In Fiery I-84 Crash Involving Three Tractor-Trailers, School Bus
A fiery four-vehicle crash on I-84 has left two people dead and the highway closed with miles-long back-ups.
The crash, between three tractor-trailers and an empty school bus in East Hartford, took place around 5:10 a.m., Monday, June 3, between exits 55 and 56, when a tractor-trailer rear-ended a school bus, said Connecticut State Police Sgt. Dwight Washington during a press conference.
Following the crash, three vehicles were engulfed in flames, including two tractor-trailers and the school bus.
