A strong storm system that swept through the region brought heavy rain and whipping winds with gusts topping 60 mph that left thousands in the Hudson Valley without power. Con Edison, NYSEG, Central Hudson, Rockland & Orange Utilities all had thousands lose power on Wednesday, Oct. 7 as the storm rolled through the region, toppling trees and downing power lines. With extreme heat and heavy rain expected to hit the area, Central Hudson is warning customers to be wary of a summer storm. There has been an uptick in reported attempts at utility scams, according to Central Hudson Gas & Electric. Central Hudson customers have been reporting more scams, prompting officials to release an alert to consumers, complete with tips on how to avoid becoming the latest victim of opportunistic fraudsters. Spring has spring but wintry weather is here. With the fourth Nor’easter of the month expected to hit the region on Wednesday, bringing sleet, freezing rain, snow and strong wind gusts, Central Hudson Gas & Electric is warning customers to be prepared for potential power outages. 70,000 Now Without Power In Dutchess
Update, 1:15 p.m. As of 1:15 p.m. on Friday, a Central Hudson Gas and Electric spokesperson announced that 70,000 outages have been reported, with more than 700 individual damage locations to be addressed.
