Uncommon Grounds, known for its freshly made bagels and house-roasted coffee, officially opened its newest location at 600 North Greenbush Road in North Greenbush on Wednesday, March 5, and locals are already buzzing.
“We can’t wait to welcome you to our cozy new spot and serve up the good stuff: freshly roasted coffee, mouthwatering bagels, delightful muffins, and those legendary bagel sandwiches you’ve been hearing about,” owner Mike Hoover said on Facebook.

A Nicaragua man in the United States illegally assaulted federal agents in upstate New York while being detained under the new Laken Riley Act, prosecutors said.
Michel Manuel Garcia-Rojas, 38, who resides in Albany, was charged with assaulting a federal officer in Albany federal court Thursday, March 6, following an alleged incident in Rotterdam.

The US population is rapidly diversifying, with cities in the Northeast and mid-Atlantic at the forefront, according to a new study.
WalletHub released its 2025 ranking of the nation's Most Diverse Cities on Wednesday, Feb. 26. Three Maryland communities topped the list of 501 locations, which were evaluated based on socioeconomic, cultural, economic, household, and religious diversity.

A Long Island man is accused in a stabbing attack near an Albany college that killed a 24-year-old man and injured a second victim.
Fabian Martinez-Reyes, 20, of Port Jefferson, was arrested Wednesday, Feb. 26, by Albany Police and members of the US Marshals Task Force, the agency said.
It came months after emergency crews in Albany were called about a stabbing near Washington Avenue and Quail Street, one block from the UAlbany campus, at around 3:40 a.m. on June 3, 2024.

Authorities are asking for the public’s help in locating two Capital Region teenagers who have been missing nearly a week.
Esther Fils-Aime, 17, and Joanisha Pierre, 18, both of Albany, were last seen on Friday, Feb, 14, according to Albany Police.
Additional details, including possible clothing descriptions and their last known locations, were not immediately available.

Man Repeatedly Stabs Woman In Front Of 2 Kids At Home In Region, Police Say
A man is facing attempted murder charges following a stabbing attack that injured a woman in Albany.
Officers responded to a residence in the city’s Beverwyck neighborhood, near Sherman and Quail streets, for a stabbing at around 9:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2.
Inside the home, they found a woman, 31, suffering from stab wounds to her torso, legs, and hands, Albany Police said. She was taken to Albany Medical Center Hospital in stable condition.

A suspect was arrested hours after a man was shot to death in the Capital Region.
The shooting occurred in Albany’s Beverwyck neighborhood, near the Albany News Deli on Central Avenue, at around 5:40 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30.

Federal officials have released more information about a small plane crash on Interstate 684 at the border of Fairfield, CT, and Westchester, NY counties.
