Stewart A. Klein, 30, was originally approached around 6 p.m. Monday when an officer approached his red Chevy S10 pickup truck parked in the area of Innis Avenue, police said.
When the officer approached, Klein put the car into reverse and almost hit the officer, said Town of Poughkeepsie Capt. Kevin Faber.
Klein then fled the area and was later tracked down with the help of the Hyde Park Police Department and the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office in the area of Buttermilk Drive and Honeywell Lane.
When finally stopped, he again resisted arrested and was tasered by either Hyde Park or the Sheriff's Office. Emergency medical technicians at the scene removed the taser darts and treated his wounds. Klein was then taken into custody by the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office.
Police believe that Klein was using heroin at the time his pickup was first approached.
Klein was charged by the Town of Poughkeepsie with reckless endangerment, Faber said.
Capt. John Watterson with the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office said he was charged by their agency with resisting arrest, criminal possession of drugs and possession of a hypodermic needle.
He is being held at the Dutchess County Jail.
