Pleasant Valley Man Apprehended After High-Speed Pawling Police Chase

PAWLING, N.Y. -- A 28--year-old Pleasant Valley man is facing multiple charges following a high-speed chase on Saturday, Nov. 7, New York State Police in Dover Plains said.

Christopher C. Spence has been charged with reckless endangerment in the second degree, unlawfully fleeing a police officer in the third degree, aggravated unlicensed operation third degree, and several other vehicle and traffic offenses.

Troopers monitoring traffic on State Route 55 in the Town of Pawling attempted to stop a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix traveling in excess of 80 miles per hour, according to police. 

When the officer activated his emergency lights and sirens, the driver continued on State Route 55 at a high rate of speed. 

Following an estimated five-mile-long pursuit, the operator and sole occupant of the vehicle identified as Spence came to a stop on Harmony Hill Road where he was taken into custody without further incident, according to police.

Spence was arraigned before the Town of Dover Justice Court and remanded to Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $15,000 cash bail or $25,000 bond. Spence is due to appear in Pawling Court on Thursday, Nov. 12, at 6:30 p.m.
