Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene near the Columbia County line after receiving a report of the accident, according to officials.
The operator of the car was unconscious and trapped in the vehicle, and was later pronounced dead at the scene, police report.
The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin, according to officials.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle was traveling southbound when it left the roadway and struck a tree, police report.
The roadway was closed approximately three hours for investigators, according to officials.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Dutchess County Medical Examiner’s Office and the Town of Red Hook Fire Department, police report.
The crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office Crash Investigation Unit.
