The head-on crash occurred around 1:13 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23 on Saint Andrews Road, said Hyde Park Police Chief Robert Benson.

When Hyde Park officers arrived on the scene,  they found a 2001 Dodge Intrepid, operated by the man from Hyde Park, had been traveling east on Saint Andrews Road when he was hit head-on by a 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe.

The elderly man was transported to MidHudson Regional Hospital by Northern Dutchess Paramedics where he succumbed to his injuries, Benson said.

The driver of the Hyundai,  a 43-year-old woman from Wappingers Falls, and a passenger, a 45-year-old man, also from Wappingers Falls were also transported to MidHudson Regional Hospital by Northern Dutchess Paramedics with non-life threatening injuries.

A preliminary investigation revealed the Hyundai crossed the double-yellow line and struck the Dodge.

No charges have been filed at this time.

The names will be released as soon as the next of kin have been notified.

Saint Andrews road remained closed while the crash was investigated and reconstructed by the Hyde Park Police and New York State Police.

The Hyde Park Police were assisted at the scene by the New York State Police, Hyde Park Fire Department, Roosevelt Fire Department, and Northern Dutchess Paramedics.
