The department has received multiple complaints of a Craigslist scam where when the would-be renters calls to inquire about the apartment, a man answers and tells them to send a money through Western Union to secure the apartment.
Once the person sends the money, they find out the apartment does not exist and they have lost their money, police said.
Police said residents should never wire money to strangers for any reason.
If you believe you have been a victim of a scam, please contact the police department to file a report. Complaints can be filed by phone at (845) 229-9340 or at police headquarters at 3 Cardinal Road Hyde Park.
