Lance Lavender, 57, who was charged with first-degree scheme to defraud, was sentenced on Thursday, Aug. 3 to 1 1/3 to 4 years in state prison and ordered to pay $105,800 in restitution, the DA's office said.
According to Ulster County District Attorney Holley Carnright, Lavender conned a local Ulster County resident into giving him money by claiming he was a financial expert and realtor who could help her consolidate her debt and manage her financial affairs.
Unbeknownst to the victim, Lavender also defrauded her elderly father by claiming that his daughter urgently needed financial assistance, she added.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Jessica Mila Schutzman.
