Survival skills, like building a fire and finding nourishment, are the focus of a free program Saturday, Nov. 14 at Bowdoin Park in Poughkeepsie. From 9 a.m. until noon, the county's parks division will teach adults age 18 and over how to prepare for a trek in the woods, and how to handle it if that trek goes awry.
Topics will include how to avoid getting lost, as well as what to do if you are lost. Adults can also learn about how to find safe drinking water, build a shelter and identify a variety of plants.
The program is free but participants should register, and dress for weather conditions. The class meets in the education center at Bowdoin Park, 85 Sheafe Road.
For more details and/or to register, visit the county's website or call (845) 298-4602.
