A 29-year-old man from the region is facing years behind bars after admitting that he sexually abused a minor. Albany County resident William Maguire, of Voorheesville, pleaded guilty to multiple sex crimes in Saratoga County Court on Friday, July 7. Maguire admitted that he forcibly sexually assaulted the 14-year-old victim while they were sleeping at a home in the town of Providence in January 2023. Man Raped Child At Capital Region Home, Police Say
A man from the Capital Region is behind bars after allegedly raping a child, authorities said. Albany County resident William Maguire, age 29, of Voorheesville, was arrested Monday, Jan. 23, following an investigation by the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office. According to police, Maguire was found to have forcibly raped a girl under the age of 15. The assault reportedly occurred at a home in the Town of Providence. Suspect Nabbed In Violent Christmas Day Robbery In Capital Region
A man is behind bars in connection with a violent, Christmas Day robbery in the region. Albany County resident Shandell Scott, age 32, of New Scotland, was arrested by State Police on Tuesday, Jan. 3. It came more than a week after troopers were called to a Voorheesville home at around noon on Sunday, Dec. 25, with reports of an altercation and theft. Investigators determined that Scott struck and “forcibly took” multiple items from the victim. Capital District Gets $27M For ‘Environmentally Friendly’ Pedestrian, Biking Projects
The Capital District is set to receive more than $27 million in federal funding to help pay for new pedestrian and biking projects around the region. New York was awarded a total of $178.8 million in federal dollars that will go to 75 communities across the state for projects that promote environmentally friendly modes of travel and make it easier and safer to bike and walk, according to Gov. Capital District Homes Evacuated After Man Purposely Cuts Gas Line, Police Say
A gas leak that forced the evacuation of several homes in the Capital District is being attributed to a mental health emergency, authorities said. Emergency crews in Albany County were called Monday afternoon, June 6, with a request for medical assistance at a home on Lexington Court in Voorheesville, according to the Albany County Sheriff’s Office. When medics arrived, they discovered a gas leak inside the home, prompting seven nearby homes to be evacuated out of precaution, police said.
