Columbia County Man Killed By Trooper After Pulling Gun, Police Say A distraught man from the region who threatened self-harm was shot and killed by New York State troopers after allegedly pulling a gun. The incident occurred in Saratoga County around 4 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 11, on Route 9 in the parking lot of Bethel Saratoga in Saratoga Springs. According to New York State Trooper Stephanie O'Neil, troopers were searching for Columbia County resident James Dellea, age 48, of Hillsdale, who had threatened self-harm. Man From Region Killed By State Trooper After Striking Officer With Car, Police Say A 32-year-old Hudson Valley man was shot and killed by a New York State trooper after allegedly striking the officer with his vehicle. The incident occurred in Sullivan County at 2:20 a.m. on Tuesday, July 16, on Rock Hill Drive in the town of Thompson. According to Trooper Steven Nevel of the New York State Police, troopers were involved in a vehicle pursuit with the driver, identified as Orange County resident Albert Melendez of Middletown. Wrong-Way Driver Fleeing Troopers Hits Three Cars In Hudson Valley, Police Say A Hudson Valley man was imparied by drugs when he tried to outrun state troopers and struck three other vehicles, according to New York State Police. A trooper first spotted the man speeding eastbound across the Mid-Hudson Bridge in Poughkeepsie at around 7 a.m. Wednesday, May 18. When the trooper attempted to stop Tyzhan Catts, age 23, of Poughkeepsie, he kept going and began passing vehicles by driving into oncoming traffic, police said.
