Gov. Kathy Hochul announced that New Yorkers can now have a digital version of their state-issued driver's license or identification right on their smartphones. Hochul and the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles announced on Tuesday, June 11 that the new program, New York Mobile ID, was now available to all New Yorkers. Available to anyone with a smartphone, New York Mobile ID (or MiD) is a highly secure digital version of a state-issued driver's license, learner’s permit, or non-driver identification card that can be used at nearly 30 TSA security checkpoints across the country. …

Security screeners stopped a man from carrying a loaded gun onto a plane at an airport in the region. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers made the discovery Monday, June 19, at Albany International Airport, the agency announced. During a routine X-ray screening, the Troy man was found to have a loaded .380 caliber gun inside his duffle bag along with his clothing. A Capital Region man is heading to federal prison for attempting to bring a loaded handgun onto a plane at Albany International Airport. Josef Jarvis, age 32, of Albany, was sentenced to nearly four years behind bars Thursday, April 28, after pleading guilty to illegally carrying a firearm as a felon.
