A Long Island family’s dinner took a terrifying turn when lightning struck their home, igniting a rooftop fire. The blaze broke out around 6:40 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, at a two-story residence in Lawrence on Juniper Circle North, according to Nassau County Police. As a line of thunderstorms passed through the area, lightning struck the home’s roof and started a fire, the Nassau County Fire Marshal said. A New Jersey woman was killed in upstate New York over the weekend when a tree fell on her camper during fierce thunderstorms that ripped through the region, authorities said. At about 10:50 a.m. the Delaware County 911 Center received multiple reports of trees down on campers at multiple locations with an individual trapped at the Russell Brook Campground in the Town of Colchester.
