Two men from the region have been charged with possession of stolen property and robbery for allegedly stealing more than 100 checks worth $130,000 from post office boxes.
Dutchess County residents Jaiyah Shabelch, age 25, and Raheem Angus, age 25, both of Poughkeepsie, were arrested on Monday, March 11 following an investigation into the thefts.
According to the Town of Poughkeepsie Police, officers were conducting surveillance of a free-standing US postal box on Raymond Avenue after several complaints of stolen checks.

Two Connecticut men, including one who was the subject of an hours-long manhunt in Westchester, face charges after stealing a vehicle, a submachine gun, and a semiautomatic handgun, police said.

A paramedic allegedly stole from a man killed in a car crash in Northern Westchester that he responded to, police said.
The crash happened in Yorktown on Thursday, Jan. 26, when a man, whose identity was not released, was critically injured and eventually died from his injuries.
A day later, on Friday, Jan. 27, Yorktown Police were notified that some of the victim's personal property was missing, including an electronic communication device.

A dispute between an Uber driver and a passenger ended with the customer pulling a gun on the driver at a hotel in the region, authorities said.
The Albany County incident happened at around 4:15 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 15, at the Tru by Hilton in Colonie, located on Albany-Shaker Road, according to Colonie Police.
Officers determined that Omjasisa Felder, age 52, of Troy, got into a confrontation with the Uber driver over the details of a ride. During the argument, he reportedly displayed a gun and pointed it at the driver before returning to his hotel room.

An out-of-state man was caught driving a stolen truck in the Hudson Valley, authorities said.
State police in Ulster County stopped the vehicle at around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, as it drove south on Highway 209 in the town of Wawarsing.
While talking with the driver, 24-year-old Jonathen Wright, of Newaygo, Michigan (located in Western Michigan just north of Grand Rapids), troopers determined that the 2001 GMC 3500 had been reported stolen from Newport News, Virginia.
Wright also had a suspended license out of Michigan, police said.

Three people are facing charges after state troopers recovered a stolen car and gun in the Capital District.
Troopers in Columbia County stopped the Hyundai Santa Fe just before 1 p.m. Thursday, July 14, on State Route 9 near Stickles Road in Livingston.
The vehicle had been reported stolen from Livingston the previous Friday, July 8, according to New York State Police.
