21-Year-Old NY College Student Shot To Death; Duo Nabbed In Connection To Case
Police have arrested two suspects accused of gunning down a young college student in New York who was an aspiring pilot. Usman Pirzada, age 21, was shot to death Tuesday, Dec. 19, in Schenectady’s Hamilton Hill neighborhood, according to police. Pirzada was found shortly before 9 p.m. near Lincoln Avenue and Steuben Street suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to Albany Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead hours later, Schenectady Police said. Driver Nabbed In Hit-Run Of Boy Near Capital Region Daycare, Police Say
Police have arrested a 29-year-old man in connection with a hit-and-run crash in the region that sent a boy to the hospital. The wreck happened shortly after 5 a.m. Monday, Dec. 18, in Schenectady, near the intersection of Route 7 and Albany Street. Schenectady Police said multiple people called 911 saying a male was lying in the roadway and not moving. When officers arrived, they found the boy unconscious. A potent, late autumn storm is bringing flooding and road closures to parts of the region. Flood watches or warnings are up for the entire Capital Region with rainfall totals of 2 to 4 inches expected through Monday night, Dec. 18, according to the National Weather Service in Albany. Higher rainfall accumulations are expected on east and southeast-facing slopes of the eastern Catskills. A jury has found a 24-year-old man guilty of stabbing his friend to death during an altercation at a home in the region. Jaquan Morrison, of Schenectady, was convicted of murder in Schenectady County Court on Friday, Dec. 8, in the killing of 21-year-old Dwayne Harris. Prosecutors said Harris allowed Morrison to stay at a Schenectady home, located on Maple Avenue, that he shared with several roommates in April 2022. The man accused of opening fire at a New York synagogue on the first day of Hanukkah has been federally charged. Mufid Fawaz Alkhader, age 28, of Schenectady, appeared in Albany federal court on Friday, Dec. 8, where he was arraigned on one count of unlawfully possessing a firearm. Cyber Tip Leads To Child Porn Charges For Capital Region 19-Year-Old
A 19-year-old man from the region is facing charges after he was allegedly caught with child pornography. Malachi Fennicks, of Schenectady, was arrested Friday, Nov. 17, following an investigation by New York State Police. Troopers began investigating Fennicks after receiving a cyber tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Investigators found him in possession of multiple images consistent with child sexual exploitation, police said.
