Welfare Fraud Task Force In Region Nabs Alleged Violators Four recipients of welfare benefits in the region were nabbed for a variety of alleged crimes ranging from selling a SNAP card to failing to report income. The four were charged in Sullivan County from August to October by the Sullivan County Welfare Task Force. The four include: Sage Pere, age 26, of Monticello, was charged on Friday, Aug. 23, for criminal use of a benefit card. It is alleged that Pere sold her SNAP benefit card, issued by the Sullivan County Department of Social Services, for $50 cash. The card had $100 worth of benefits on it. Man Found Dead In Home Pool In Region Police are investigating after a man was found dead in a Hudson Valley home pool. The incident occurred in Orange County around 12:15 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 12, on Aster Way in Wallkill. According to Wallkill Police Lt. Robert McLymore, officers discovered the victim, a 79-year-old Sullivan County man from Rock Hill, unconscious and unresponsive while in the pool.  Officers and EMS immediately began life-saving measures, including CPR, McLymore said. 2 Men From Region Nabbed Cutting Copper Pipes Off Heating Unit, Police Say Two men from the region were charged with felony burglary after allegedly being caught inside a home cutting copper pipes off of a heating system. The incident occurred in Sullivan County around 5 p.m., Monday, Jan. 1 in the town of Thompson at 409 Rock Hill Drive. According to Sullivan County Undersheriff Eric Chaboty, police responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle and found the two men identified as Damien Somolinos, age 34, and Richard Galeano, Jr, age 51, both of Rock Hill, inside a residence, cutting copper pipes off of the heating system.  The two suspects were charged wit…

On Monday, July 29, 2013, officers from the Newtown Police Department received a call to check on Robert Hoagland as he failed to pick up a family member from the airport, said Newtown Police Lt. Scott P. Man Jumps Out Of Window After 3-Alarm Fire Destroys Home In Region A three-alarm fire destroyed a Hudson Valley home and kept firefighters on the scene for more than seven hours. The fire took place in Sullivan County around 8 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 27 at 132 Haddock Road in Monticello. While en route Sullivan Fire was told that a man that had reportedly jumped from a second-floor window had suffered multiple burns.
