'Bungling Fool' Who Confessed To Schenectady Murder On Jailhouse Call Convicted In Under Hour
A Schenectady man has been convicted of murder and multiple weapons charges in the 2023 execution-style killing of a city resident.
Jeffrey Bashaw, 56, was found guilty of second-degree murder and related charges by a Schenectady County jury on Wednesday, Aug. 20, in the death of Leroy Chisom.
Bashaw and co-defendant Kevin Dingle lured the 41-year-old Chisom from his bedroom on State Street in Schenectady on Oct. 22, 2023, prosecutors said. The two men, wearing masks, gloves, and dark clothing, shot Chisom at least five times each before fleeing in under a minute.

The day before a pregnant Massachusetts teen went missing earlier this month, she sent a chilling text to her sister about her boyfriend: “My phone is at 4% and if I die, it was Greg.”
Two weeks later, police found the body of 18-year-old Kylee Monteiro, who had been stabbed to death and buried in the yard of her boyfriend’s grandparents in Rehoboth, authorities said.
Gregory Groom, 22, admitted to police that he killed Monteiro, the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office said. Despite that alleged confession, he pleaded not guilty to murder.

Suffolk County Police announced on Monday, Aug. 4, that a woman is wanted for the murder of a Jamesport man killed inside his home last year, police announced on Monday, Aug. 4, 2025.
Majorie Quarrie, also known as Nicola Watson, stabbed 36-year-old Conrad Gowan in the neck at his residence on Herricks Lane at 11:43 p.m. Monday, March 4, 2024, according to the Suffolk County Homicide Squad and as Daily Voice previously reported.
Gowan, a resident of the home, was transported by the Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead where he was pronounced dead.

NY Man Who Murdered Mom, Stepdad On 4th Of July Sentenced To Life Without Parole
A New York man who stabbed his mother and stepfather to death on Independence Day 2023 will spend the rest of his life behind bars.
Anthony Lewis Jr., 33, of Rotterdam, was sentenced Wednesday, July 30, in Schenectady County Court to life without parole, followed by an additional 3½ to 7 years for related charges.
A jury convicted Lewis in May of murdering his mother, Cathy Ayala-Guillaume, and his stepfather, Robert Guillaume, at their Fern Avenue home in Rotterdam on July 4, 2023. He then lingered in the house for more than a day before fleeing in his stepfather’s car, prosecutors said.

NY Man Tries Hiring Hitman To Kidnap, Kill Business Rival, DA Says
A Long Island man was formally charged with plotting to have a former business associate kidnapped and murdered.
Navdeep Singh, 48, of Dix Hills, was indicted on a dozen counts of conspiracy and criminal solicitation in Nassau County Court on Tuesday, July 29, weeks after his arrest.
Singh offered $100,000 and 10 acres of land in India to a would-be hitman to carry out the attack, according to the Nassau County DA’s office.
